NIAS SUPRA Nordic Scholarship for MA and PhD Programs in Denmark, 2018
NIAS – the Nordic Institute of Asian Studies is offering SUPRA Nordic scholarship. The programme is open to students resident in the Nordic countries.
It is designed to make NIAS’ digital library and other resources accessible to PhD candidates and graduate students in the Nordic countries.
NIAS – the Nordic Institute of Asian Studies – is an academically independent Nordic research and resource center, focusing on modern Asia from a predominantly social sciences perspective. NIAS is an integrated part of the University of Copenhagen with the status of a centre under the Department of Political Science.
Scholarship Description
- Applications Deadline: October 1, 2018
- Course Level: This scholarship is awarded to students and researchers, including a number of online services available at NIAS, as well as outside the institute. The scholarship is available to study MA and PhD programme.
- Study Subject: The Scholarship is one of the most important features of NIAS’ Support Programme for Asian Studies.
- Scholarship Award: Students from institutions belonging to the Nordic NIAS Council (NNC) will have priority access to fully-financed NIAS SUPRA scholarships. Students from institutions outside the NNC are also eligible, but will have to cover their travel expenses to and from Copenhagen. A scholarship covers inexpensive travel to and from Copenhagen and accommodation in a NIAS room at Nordisk Kollegium with full board for a period of two weeks.

Eligibility for the Scholarship
Eligible Countries: The programme is open to students resident in the Nordic countries. The Nordic countries are generally considered to refer to Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden, including their associated territories (Greenland, the Faroe Islands and the Åland Islands).
Entrance Requirements: Applicants must meet the following criteria:
NIAS SUPRA denotes a support programme comprising of several different forms of research support, which is offered to students and researchers, including a number of online services available at NIAS, as well as outside the institute. The programme is open to students resident in the Nordic countries, who have been admitted to a university MA or PhD programme, and who actively carry out work on an Asian topic. SUPRA also gives researchers the opportunity to come to NIAS and carry out their research for a shorter or longer period. Furthermore, Nordic networks focusing on Asia can apply for support to e.g. workshops and conferences.
English Language Requirements: Applicants whose first language is not English are usually required to provide evidence of proficiency in English at the higher level required by the University.
